The purpose of this site is to help you (the reader) with a problem that I once had: an oily face, oily skin, large and unsightly pores… I even had a little bit of acne every once in a while, but that wasn’t even my biggest problem. My biggest problem was all of the oil seeping from the pores all over my body.
This technique (to refrain from calling it a cure) was found through my own personal experience and years of research, trial and error. It is my hope that you can glean enough knowledge from this site to either solve your own oily skin problem or, at least, give you a solid foundation to start from.
I offer this knowledge free of charge. I am not charging a fee, or selling a book. These are my own opinions and perspectives, based both a lifetime of suffering and my quest for understanding my own problem. Therefore, it should go without saying that I cannot guarantee this information will help you and your oily skin problem. Although I sincerely hope (with all of my heart) that it will help you get your own oily skin problem under control, this information is offered without warranty or promise of any kind.
My Oily Skin Story…
My first experience with an oily face was when I was a teenager. It was the first summer after I turned 13. I looked in the mirror one day, and my face had a sheen on it that looked completely unnatural.
Literally, it looked like it had Vaseline smeared all over it. Not surprisingly (in retrospect), it was also the summer that I started getting blackheads, whiteheads and a little acne.
Being a particularly shy person to begin with, my oily face affected me more than it should have. My self-esteem was never very high to start with, so my problem with severely oily skin (especially my oily face) did not help. Although I was no different from most teens, I always thought something was “wrong” with me. Every look in the mirror seemed to reinforce the negative view I carried of myself.
When I looked at myself in a photo, I would never really see ME. I would only see an oily forehead, oily nose, and oily cheeks. Needless to say, I didn’t like having my picture taken. If picture taking was planned, such as for prom, senior pics, etc, I would try to keep some tissue in my pocket to dab the oil from my face before the event.
Strangely, I also had very greasy ears! It wasn’t wax, as I washed my ears very well every day and used Q-Tips to clean in the ear canals. My oily ears, never made much sense to me, but it’s something that I always noticed. I don’t know if anyone else noticed or not, as I kept my hair over my ears in those days.
I Tried Every “Oily Skin” Product On The Market!
Needless to say, I tried EVERYTHING to keep my oily skin and acne under control: Oxy-10, Strydex pad, Noxema cream, or whatever zit medication I saw on a commercial. I also tried washing my face several times per day, which did offer some temporary relief to my suffering.
After seeing how miserable I was, my parents finally took me to a dermatologist. He prescribed tetracycline and topical Retin-A. The tetracycline seemed to do absolutely nothing and the topical Retin-A only made my skin red and blotchy to the point of even more embarrassment.
It’s funny, thinking back to those days of seeing the dermatologist in the 1980′s, because even then I would argue with the doctor about what I thought was causing my acne (more on this later).
During my senior year of high school, I moved to a new town and started seeing a different dermatologist. He took one look at my severely oily face, oily ears, large pores and immediately prescribed Accutane for my oily skin and acne.
It took about 2 months, but the Accutane finally gave me the relief that I had been seeking for years. In fact, my skin was so dry that I had to start using lotion for the first time in my life.
I took Accutane for about a year, until I moved out and was no longer able to afford the incredibly expensive prescription medication. After I stopped taking the Accutane, my oily skin came back (I knew it would).
My Oily Skin Did Not Go Away When I Reached My 30′s…
When I was in my teens, I always thought that my oily skin would go away once I got into my 20′s… But I was wrong. I continued to deal with oily face and oily skin through my 20′s and into my 30′s.
After high school, I didn’t “suffer” quite as much. I always had good friends. None of them ever teased me, ridiculed me, or thought any less of me in any way (as far as I know)… but, I definitely still self-conscious of my oily face.
Then, one night I looked in the mirror and decided that I was going to ”get serious” about finding a solution to my oily skin problem. I wanted clear skin… smooth skin, with small pores that didn’t shine like a beacon every time someone took my picture with a flash. I wanted normal skin, dammit! I didn’t do anything to deserve this problem! I am a good person and deserved beautiful skin that didn’t embarrass me.
So, I searched…
I will be honest here… I tried a lot of things that did not work. I must have tried every “home remedy” I could find that had anything to do with improving the look or texture of the skin. Most of it was either too difficult to maintain or just didn’t work at all.
Eventually, I found several things that worked pretty well… which led me to diffing deeper into why those things worked and other things didn’t.
This consistant effort of always digging deeper allowed to find a few select techniques that worked very well (by treating the source of my oily skin problem) and I was able to hone these processes down to an easy “routine” that continuously improved the look and feel of my skin.
Every day that I followed this process my skin looked less shiny and pores looked smaller. The best part? These techniques are either free or very inexpensive.
I am 37 years old now… and I feel like I am starting my life over again.
I feel better about myself and how I look, and this newly acquired confidence has spread to all facets of my life… personal and business.
As an example, I recently got married and I am happier than ever… and although I would like to believe that I would have gotten married even if I hadn’t ”cured” my oily skin, my confidence in myself allows me to be a better spouse because I am able to focus more on my partner instead of my own perceived inadequacies.
This website will not get OVERLY technical when it comes to the specific reasons why people like myself (and probably you, if you are still reading this) have oily skin. But, I will go into a little bit of detail to explain why I recommend some of the things that I do. However, anyone with a 6th grade education will probably have enough biology under their belt to understand what I am talking about.
So, I Created This Website To Help Others Like Me…
